You've Created a Monster! Scary or cuddly? Horns or fangs? Hairy or scaly? These are just a few of the options students may be considering as they create their very own mixed media monsters. Using Maurice Sendak's popular children's book Where the Wild Things Are as inspiration, students will kick off this creative process with some brainstorming for ideas. As Sednak's monsters are often morphs of different creatures, each featuring a wide range of surface textures, students will get to try out a variety of characteristics in several sketches.
Students will choose one of these sketches (or a compilation of sketches) as the guide for their final project. The materials used will include pencil, Sharpie marker, oil pastels and watercolor paint.
